Closed cell is much more dense than open cell foam and also has a slightly different structure where the cells are not broken are are full of a special gas made by Honeywell called 245fa. Like open cell, Heatlok Soy is an air barrier, is class 1 fire-rated and doesn’t emit any VoCs, HCFCs, CFCs, fermaldehyde or other byproducts. In fact, closed cell is GreenGuard certified for construction use in schools. Due to the closed cell structure, Heatlok Soy acts as a class II vapor retarder at greater than 1.5″ and due to its density is incredible strong and able to significantely add to the structural integrity of the home.
