Blown Insulation

What is Blown Insulation?

Blown insulation – also known as blown-in insulation – refers to a method of insulation installation. This is to help improve the performance per square inch of insulation since during the process, blown-in insulation is sprayed into wall cavities, attics and floors to ensure that every part is covered and filled with insulation, not allowing any room for holes. There are a few different types of blown insulation such as spray foam, cellulose and loose-fill fiberglass.

Spray Foam

Polyurethane foam or spray-in foam expands to fill cracks and voids to form a tightly sealed barrier. One of the biggest advantages of foam versus fiberglass is that it eliminates air infiltration.

Cellulose

Cellulose blown insulation has been around for quite some time – since the 1920s, to be exact. It’s made of recovered or recycled newsprint and corrugated cardboard that’s treated with a fire retardant. The three kinds of residential applications for blown-in cellulose insulation are: loose fill, stabilized and wall cavity spray.

Loose-Fill Fiberglass

Fiberglass, in its looser form, is glass that is spun into fibers and installed by using a blown machine. When it comes to blown insulation for loose-fill fiberglass, this increases the R-value of your home, which is increased the effectiveness of the insulation material, which increases your energy efficiency in your home.

The Benefits of Blown Insulation

With EcoLogic Energy Solutions, we are all about reducing your monthly energy costs with our insulation services. Blown insulation has many benefits, such as:

  • Energy savings – Insulation seals tiny cracks and crevices and keeps indoor air in and outdoor air out, in both summer and winter. By keeping heated and cooled air where you want it, you increase indoor comfort and save money.
  • Fire protection – Fiberglass and cellulose reduce the risk of fires.
  • Soundproofing benefits – Because the material is tightly sealed into your attic, there is a sound buffer between rooms that will reduce overall outdoor noise.
  • Reduced condensation – When moisture and condensation are kept out of your attic by providing humidity control, it’s much more difficult for mold, mildew and bacteria to grow – and that protects your roof and ceilings.

Blown insulation will make a lasting impression on your home, in terms of comfort, energy cost and protection.
